One Veteran’s Opus on the Growing Police State

“Somebody had the idea to get rid of the Iraqi Army…When we rebuilt it, we did everything we could to make it as strong as possible. And I’ll tell you right now, Homeland Security would kick their butts in a week.”

“What we’re doing here, and let’s not kid about it, we’re building a domestic army and we’re shrinking the military because the government is afraid of it’s own citizens.”

“We’re building an army over here and I can’t believe people aren’t seeing it.”

“Is everybody blind?”

If you aren’t asking yourself that last question, keep doing research, and you can’t help but wake up from counting sheep and see the road we are on. You too will be asking “Why?” The answer I’m afraid, is so many CHOOSE to be blind.

Applause! Thank you Sir for Speaking the Truth!

Why do you Open Carry at Starbucks? Is It Time To Give Them a Break?

I can’t help but think Starbucks Coffee has shown sufficient resolve to follow the laws of the respective states with regards to carry thatdragging the company further into this issue may very well be unproductive. I think that goes double if people start dragging AR-15s into Starbucks to show their appreciation.

I just believe if we’re going to show appreciation, it would behoove us to leave the rifles at home. To be honest, I think even pistol OC, if done to make a point (and not just because you do it) probably isn’t helping Starbucks remain comfortable with their decision.

At this point, I think if Starbucks reverses its policy, we have no one to blame except ourselves. We’re already seeing hints this may be getting pushed too far by our own side. Last year, when this issue heated up again, I thought our side was working too hard to help the antis keep the issue alive. I think the best way we can help Starbucks is not to fan the flames. Keep spending your money there, and when the antis make noise, drop a note to corporate saying you’re a regular customer, and you appreciate their decision to follow state law on firearms.

The above is from Sebastian at pagunblog.com in his piece Time to Give Starbucks a Break: 2013 Edition.

I have to say I agree. Starbucks has decided that they will support local gun laws, and have done so in the face of the anti-gunners on the left. This was a bold stance for Starbucks, as the company leadership has been aligned with the Democratic Party for some time. This should be the norm and the expectation and should keep them off of a ‘Boycott’ list for second amendment supporters, but it should not be were a battle is struck out. The battle should be waged at  those businesses and localities that choose to ban weapons on the their private property, in effect making the decision that the ban is more important to them than your business with them. It belongs on the doorsteps of the police departments that insist on illegally searching and detaining individuals outside the confines of the law. Read more…

Open Carry Texas Holds Rally at McAllen Police Department; Updates to the Horton Arrest

Open Carry Texas Members and Supporters Rally at the McAllen Police Department

Open Carry Texas Members and Supporters Rally at the McAllen Police Department

Open Carry Texas member and supporters rallied at the McAllen Police Department Saturday where member Zach Horton was arrested earlier in the week for what appears to be doing nothing more than following the law.

The rally, dubbed “Come and Take It McAllen,” brought a crowd of 75-100 people at it’s peak, many of whom were legally openly carrying rifles in accordance with state law. The event was peaceful and drew Open Carry Texas members from across the state, as well as local members and supporters in the Rio Grande Valley. There was also a noted lack of police presence at the peaceful event. Mr. Horton was in attendance himself as well.

Attendees later noted that they were carrying their firearms in accordance with the law and were doing so in the same parking lot in which Zach Horton had been arrested, and he never even took his rifle out from where it was secured behind the seat of his regular cab pickup.

“Criminal Trespassing”… At a Police Station?

More details in my latest post here.

UPDATE AVAILABLE IN FOLLOW UP POST. ONLY CHARGE FILED WAS “Possession of a Weapon in a Prohibited Place”.  CLICK HERE for more.

Open Carry Texas (OCT) is reporting that one of their founding members was arrested yesterday, August 7th, for “Criminal Trespassing” at the McAllen Police Department in the Rio Grande Valley.

OCT has the report like this:

He went to the police station to inform them that he was going to take a picture with his rifle in front of the police department as we have done in several other cities around the state. They immediately and illegally searched him and confiscated his legally possessed K-bar (only 5 1/4 inches long) and told him to leave, which he did. He then decided to return to file a formal complaint and called the police department to let them know he was coming back to do so. When he arrived at the police station, officers immediately drew on him, forced him to the ground, and arrested him. HE NEVER ONCE OPENLY CARRIED HIS FIREARM; IT WAS IN HIS TRUCK THE ENTIRE TIME.

Global Police Responsibility?!?

SONY DSC

Sundance over at theconservativetreehouse.com had a post today that started out as commentary on the Rand Paul vs Chris Christie media show, and ended up, in my opinion, as full on support for global military intervention and ‘freedom policing’ by the US military from now until the end of time.

In part sundance states:

there are particular responsibilities the United States must uphold.

One of them is to provide security for the freedom beacon to be seen by individuals in all nations.

Yes, that means we have a responsibility to maintain a military of such global significance we can protect the aspirations of any, and all, nations who also seek to advance their own shining light.

I shared my two part response in the comments below but wished to share them here as well…

The United States has no responsibilities to the world. It only has responsibilities to it’s peoples, to give them a liberty-rich republic, and states with republican governments. The fact that the US dollar is propped up by foreign countries does not begat our responsibility to our own. Our obligation to be ethical and restrained in fiscal policy and ‘the printing press’ is not one to the world but to our own, as it secures our own freedoms and liberties. By protecting and promoting our own liberties and freedoms at every turn, we become the beacon on the hill to inspire and motivate the world. We should strive to inspire and motivate; not to protect, secure and advance anywhere except within our borders. I would want no man or foreign nation to ‘secure’ or ‘advance’ my liberties, such a thing is a fallacy, they are mine (ours) to secure and protect by their very nature.
